Ummah vs Mawaqit A Mawaqit alternative for masajid

Mawaqit is the free, ad-free prayer-times platform behind the screen in thousands of prayer halls, in more than 160 countries by its own count. Ummah bundles the whole masjid in one published price: prayer times, TV displays on the TVs you already own, the Ummah Kiosk, events with registration, members, donations at 0%, vendor booth maps and a website we build, $75 a month. Here is the honest split, including where they are ahead.

30,000+ Muslims and 3,000+ communities on Ummah

They put prayer times on the wall for free. We put the wall and everything around it in one price.

Mawaqit is a prayer-times platform, and by its own description a non-profit run as a waqf. Its homepage says the solution is free to use, both for users and for mosques, that all its digital features are entirely free, and that the platform has no advertising. The product masajid know is the screen: a TV, a tablet or the Mawaqit Box on the wall of the prayer hall, showing adhan and iqama, reminders and hadiths before and after each prayer, Eid prayers and special events with full details, and messages from the mosque, in the masjid’s own theme colors, connected or fully offline once it is set up. The same times reach a phone app with a mosque finder, adhan alerts, Qibla, Quran, duas and a Hijri calendar, and from there an Apple Watch, Wear OS, a desktop, Alexa and Home Assistant. Its homepage says it is implemented in more than 160 countries, and the Google Play listing shows 5M+ downloads. We do not have that footprint, and we cannot beat free.

Ummah starts from the other end. A masjid is not only a timetable; it is the people who come, and everything they do together. On Ummah, prayer times are one module: adhan calculated for 1,900+ masajid, iqama entered once by the masjid, each Jumu’ah with its own name and time, shown on the public community page, in the app under My Communities, in a free widget on the website you already run, on a branded website we build, and on TV displays in the prayer hall, on the TVs you already own. Next to that sit events with registration and QR check-in, a member directory with tiers and dues, donations with recurring giving and a donor CRM, programs with enrollment, and a private feed, in one app across every community a Muslim belongs to. The $75 Advanced plan bundles all of it with the Ummah Kiosk and vendor booth maps, and the full rate card is public. Mawaqit’s help center says a mosque collects donations through its own payment provider by sharing a link or bank details, and nothing we read states event registration, a member directory, programs or a feed members post to, so those rows say not stated.

Their column was read from mawaqit.net, its help center and shop, and its App Store and Google Play listings when we read their site. Hardware prices are as printed in their shop, in euros. Card processing is charged separately on both platforms.

Prayer times on Ummah

Enter iqama once. It shows up everywhere a member looks.

Mawaqit puts the times on the wall. Ummah puts them on the wall too, and everywhere else: adhan is calculated from your address and method, iqama is whatever your masjid decides, and the same numbers appear on your TV displays, your public page, the app and your website without anyone retyping them for the season.

  • Adhan and iqama for all five prayers plus sunrise, one row per day for the whole month
  • Calculation method, the juristic method for Asr and a high-latitude rule set once, with offsets and per-prayer overrides
  • As many Jumu'ah times as you hold, each named, so First and Second are never confused
  • Today's iqama on every member's phone under My Communities, and the prayer time on the event page
  • A prayer times widget for the website you already run, on the Free plan
  • TV displays for the prayer hall with a countdown to iqama, four layouts and Ramadan mode, on the TVs you already own, included on Advanced
Adhan and iqama for the whole month, published everywhere at once.
A real community page: Islamic Center of Frisco, with prayer times, about, donate and join.
Everything around the timetable

Events, members, donations and programs in the same product as the prayer times.

Every community on Ummah gets a public page the day it signs up, with today's timings, upcoming events and a way to join. The people who register for an event, enroll in a class or give become members you can reach again, and the whole thing lives in one app that 30,000+ Muslims already open.

  • Events with tickets, capacity, waitlist, a form builder and QR check-in from any phone
  • A member directory with free and paid tiers, tags, join questions and an approval queue
  • Donations with recurring giving, separate zakat and sadaqah funds and a donor CRM, on your own Stripe or PayPal
  • Programs with enrollment, roster and attendance, and a private moderated feed

Questions

Yes. Mawaqit is free at every level, and if its screen already runs your prayer hall there is no reason to take it down. Keep Mawaqit on the wall and run the community on Ummah: the same iqama times published to your public page, the app and your website, next to events people can register for, a member directory, donations with recurring giving, programs with enrollment and a private feed. The masjid enters its iqama once in the portal, or we adopt it from the widget already on your website, and both screens agree. If you would rather have one system, Ummah's TV displays are included in the $75 Advanced plan and run on the TVs you already own, showing the same times next to events, campaign totals and announcements.
Yes. On the Free plan, at $0, a masjid gets calculated adhan, iqama times entered by the masjid, multiple Jumu'ah times, a public community page with today's timings, the times in the Ummah app under My Communities, and the prayer times widget for the website it already runs. Calculated adhan is live on 1,900+ masajid today. Paid plans add other things: Basic is $19/mo with a 1.5% platform fee on paid tickets and a website we design and build, Advanced is $75/mo billed annually with a 0% platform fee and bundles TV displays for the prayer hall, the Ummah Kiosk, donations and vendor booth maps. None of them is needed for prayer times in the app, on your page or on your website; the screen in the prayer hall is the part that comes with Advanced.
Nothing, by its own description. When we read their site it said the solution is free to use, both for users and for mosques, that all its digital features are entirely free, that there is no advertising, and that it runs as a non-profit waqf funded by donations. The only prices we found were for optional hardware in their shop: the Mawaqit Box at €50, a tablet at €170 and an all-in-one TV at €280, plus a wall mount, shipped worldwide. A mosque can also run the display on its own Android TV or tablet. We do not offer any pricing that beats free, and we would rather say so than pretend.
Both platforms calculate adhan from published astronomical methods and let the masjid decide the rest. Mawaqit's help center says it displays "the prayer times chosen by the mosques": a mosque can upload its own calendar, pick a method such as the Muslim World League, ISNA, Umm al-Qura, the Egyptian survey authority or Karachi, or set the Fajr and Isha angles itself, and the same article notes that nearby mosques on different methods can differ by twenty or thirty minutes. Ummah works the same way: choose the calculation method, the juristic method for Asr, Hanafi included, and a high-latitude rule in one dialog, then add offsets and per-prayer overrides where your masjid differs from the calculation. Iqama is never calculated on either platform. It is whatever your masjid decides, entered once.
Going by what we read, Mawaqit is a prayer-times platform and does not try to be more. Events are announced in the app and on the screen, but nothing we read states registration, tickets, capacity or check-in. Donations are relayed rather than processed: their help center says a mosque shares a link to its own donation page or its bank details, and the gift completes through the mosque's own payment provider, with no donor record kept for you. A member directory, membership tiers and dues, programs with enrollment, and a feed members can post to appear nowhere on the pages we read, so we list them as not stated rather than as missing. Those are the things Ummah is built around.
There is not much to move. Adhan is calculated on Ummah from your address, timezone and method, so you set the method once. Iqama is the part your masjid decides, and it goes in once, in the portal, or we adopt it from the widget already on your website. Jumu'ah times are added as their own entries with names. That is an afternoon's work for one person, and from then on the same numbers show on your public page, in the app and in the website widget. If the screen in the prayer hall runs Mawaqit, leave it there; nothing on Ummah depends on taking it down. If you later want the screen on Ummah too, TV displays on Advanced open as a web link on the same TV.
We make Ummah, so read it knowing that. We read their homepage, support and join-us pages, their shop, their help center articles on prayer times, donations, the Mawaqit Box and the API, and their App Store and Google Play listings, and listed what we found. They are still ahead on two rows: being free at every level, and a footprint measured in countries rather than communities. The display in the prayer hall is scored even: theirs is free and runs fully offline, ours is included in the $75 Advanced plan and shows events and campaign totals next to the times. Their own pages give different footprint figures, so the table quotes the homepage and lists the others. Where something appears nowhere we read, the row says not stated. If anything here is out of date or wrong, tell us and we will correct it.
