Acceptable Use Policy
Last updated August 18, 2026.
This Acceptable Use Policy ("Policy") applies to everyone who uses the Ummah platform, operated by Ummah Technology LLC: the mobile app, the Community Portal, community pages, events, ticketing, donations, and the marketplace (together, the "Platform"). It is part of our Terms of Service. If you use the Platform, you agree to this Policy. Organizations that accept payments through the Platform also agree to the rules of their chosen payment processor, including the Stripe Restricted Businesses list and the PayPal Acceptable Use Policy.
Who the Platform is for
Ummah is a community management platform for masajid, Islamic centers, Muslim Student Associations, Islamic schools and institutes, Muslim nonprofits, and community groups. It is software those organizations use to run their own operations: events, programs, prayer times, member management, announcements, and giving to the organization itself. It is not a general-purpose fundraising marketplace, and it may not be used to raise money for individuals or for causes unrelated to the organization operating the account.
Prohibited uses
You may not use the Platform to:
- Break the law, or promote, facilitate, or fund illegal activity of any kind.
- Promote, support, glorify, or fund violence, violent extremism, terrorism, or any individual or organization designated under U.S. law, including entities on the U.S. Treasury OFAC sanctions lists.
- Engage in hate, harassment, threats, or discrimination against any person or group.
- Launder money, finance criminal activity, evade sanctions, or conduct unlicensed money transmission. Funds collected through the Platform must go to, and be used by, the organization that collected them.
- Mislead donors or attendees: misrepresenting who you are, what an event is, or how donations will be used.
- Collect donations or sell tickets on behalf of any third party, or pass funds through your account to another recipient. Funds you collect must be for your own organization.
- Run raffles, lotteries, sweepstakes, or any form of gambling. The Platform does not support charitable gambling in any form.
- Sell or promote weapons, illegal drugs, counterfeit goods, adult content, or anything on your payment processor's restricted or prohibited list.
- Send funds to, or collect funds from, any person or entity in a jurisdiction subject to comprehensive U.S. sanctions, including Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria, and the Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk regions of Ukraine.
- Infringe intellectual property, violate the privacy of others, scrape the Platform, distribute malware, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to accounts or systems.
Rules for organizations that accept payments
Ticketing and donation features are available to organizations, not individuals, and are offered to U.S.-based organizations with U.S. bank accounts only. Organizations that enable them must:
- Be a legitimate, verifiable organization. For U.S. donation features this means a registered nonprofit (for most masajid and Islamic centers, an IRS 501(c)(3) organization) or an organization operating under a verifiable fiscal sponsor.
- Complete identity and account verification with their chosen payment processor (Stripe or PayPal), which performs Know Your Customer (KYC) checks before payouts are enabled. Each organization receives payouts to its own bank or PayPal account. Ummah never holds your funds.
- Describe every event, program, and donation campaign accurately, and use collected funds solely for the stated purpose.
- Honor their published refund policies and respond to donor and attendee questions.
- Comply with all applicable laws, including tax, charitable solicitation, and consumer protection rules in their state.
Enforcement
We review organizations before they can accept payments on the Platform and monitor activity on an ongoing basis. We may remove content, impose transaction or volume limits, pause payment features, suspend or terminate accounts, and report activity to payment processors or law enforcement when this Policy is violated. We may take these steps at our discretion and without prior notice where the violation is serious.
Reporting a concern
If you believe a community, event, campaign, or member is violating this Policy, email info@theummah.io. We review every report.
