Terms of Service
Last updated September 22, 2026.
As Salam Alaykum Ummah!
These Terms and Conditions ("Terms"), effective upon completion of account creation, are an agreement between you and Ummah Technology LLC ("Ummah," "we," "us," or "our") and govern your access to and use of the Ummah mobile application ("App") and the associated online community portal ("Portal") (collectively, the "Platform"). By accessing, browsing, or using the Platform, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with any part of these Terms, you may not access or use the Platform.
1. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Platform. If you are under 18, you must have your parent or legal guardian's explicit permission to use the Platform. By using the Platform, you represent and warrant that you meet these eligibility requirements.
2. User Accounts
To access certain features of the Platform, including community participation, event hosting, and marketplace activities, you will need to create an account. You are solely responsible for:
- Maintaining the confidentiality of your account login credentials (username and password).
- All activities that occur under your account, whether authorized by you or not.
- Notifying Ummah immediately of any unauthorized use of your account or any other breach of security. Ummah will not be liable for any loss or damage arising from your failure to comply with this section.
3. User Content & Community Feeds
You are solely responsible for all content ("User Content") that you upload, post, share, transmit, or otherwise make available on the Platform. This includes, but is not limited to, text, images, videos, links, polls, and any other material posted to community feeds, event pages, or within personal profiles. You represent and warrant that:
- You are the sole owner of all User Content or have all necessary rights, licenses, consents, and permissions to upload, post, or share such User Content on the Platform.
- Your User Content does not infringe upon, misappropriate, or violate a third party's patent, copyright, trademark, trade secret, moral rights, or other intellectual property rights, or rights of publicity or privacy, or result in the violation of any applicable law or regulation. You agree not to upload, post, or share any User Content that is:
- Illegal, hateful, discriminatory, racist, ethnically or religiously offensive.
- Obscene, pornographic, defamatory, libelous, or harassing.
- Incites violence, promotes illegal activities, or violates the privacy of others.
- Contains unsolicited or unauthorized advertising, promotional materials, or any other form of commercial solicitation (unless explicitly permitted through a business/merchant account).
- Contains viruses or other harmful code designed to interrupt, destroy, or limit the functionality of any computer software or hardware or telecommunications equipment.
Ummah claims no ownership rights over your User Content. However, by uploading, posting, or sharing User Content on the Platform, you grant Ummah a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide, transferable, sub-licensable license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, publicly perform, and publicly display your User Content in connection with the operation and promotion of the Platform.
Disclaimer Regarding Community Feeds: Ummah is a neutral platform that hosts user-generated content. We do not actively monitor, endorse, or verify the accuracy, legality, or appropriateness of content posted by individual users or communities on their respective feeds. Ummah is not responsible or liable for any User Content posted by communities or individual users, and you access and rely on such content at your own risk. We reserve the right, but have no obligation, to remove or edit User Content that we deem, in our sole discretion, to violate these Terms. Notwithstanding the foregoing, donation campaigns and payment features are not treated as ordinary community-feed content: they are subject to review before activation and to ongoing oversight as described in Section 6 and our Acceptable Use Policy.
4. Use of the Platform
You agree to use the Platform for lawful, community-oriented purposes only. Your use of the Platform is also governed by our Acceptable Use Policy, which is part of these Terms and describes prohibited activities in more detail, including the rules for events, donations, and payments. You expressly agree not to:
- Harm, exploit, harass, stalk, threaten, or defame others.
- Violate any applicable local, state, national, or international law or regulation.
- Interfere with, disrupt, or create an undue burden on the operation of the Platform or the servers or networks connected to the Platform.
- Impersonate any person or entity, or falsely state or otherwise misrepresent your affiliation with a person or entity.
- Transmit any viruses, Trojan horses, worms, or other harmful code or destructive mechanisms.
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any portion of the Platform, other accounts, computer systems, or networks connected to the Platform, whether through hacking, password mining, or any other means.
- Use any automated system, including "robots," "spiders," "offline readers," or "scraping" tools, to access the Platform in a manner that sends more request messages to the Ummah servers than a human can reasonably produce in the same period by using a conventional web browser.
5. Event Hosting & Participation
The Platform allows Organizations to create, promote, and manage events, and users to participate in them. Paid ticketing is available only to Organizations that have been reviewed and approved on the Platform, never to individual users.
- a. Responsibilities of Event Organizers: If you create or host an event on Ummah, you (the "Organizer") are solely responsible for:
- The accuracy, legality, and completeness of all event details, including dates, times, venues, pricing, and descriptions.
- Obtaining all necessary permits, licenses, and permissions for your event.
- Ensuring the safety and security of event participants.
- Complying with all applicable local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations related to your event, including those pertaining to sales, taxes, safety, and health.
- Managing all aspects of your event, including cancellations, postponements, and attendee communication.
- Honoring all commitments made to attendees, including delivering the event as advertised and processing legitimate refunds.
- Ummah is not responsible for the organization, execution, safety, or legality of any event hosted on the Platform.
- b. Ticket Sales & Payments (via Stripe or PayPal):
- Ummah uses third-party payment processors, Stripe (Stripe, Inc.) and PayPal (PayPal, Inc.), for financial transactions on the Platform, including event ticket sales, donations, and marketplace purchases. Each Organization selects one of these processors when enabling paid features.
- Funds collected from attendees and donors are processed directly through the Organization's own payment account: a Stripe connected account created for the Organization, or the Organization's own PayPal business account. Payouts go directly from the processor to the bank account or PayPal account the Organization controls. Ummah does not hold, custody, or transmit funds on behalf of Organizations.
- Know Your Customer (KYC)/Know Your Business (KYB) and PCI Compliance: Organizers and businesses utilizing paid features on Ummah will undergo identity verification (KYC/KYB) and payment card industry (PCI) compliance checks directly by Stripe or PayPal before payouts are enabled. Ummah does not collect or store sensitive financial information and relies on the payment processors for these regulatory and security requirements.
- Ummah Service Fees: Ummah may apply a service fee to event ticket sales and other paid transactions, as outlined in our pricing plans for event organizers and businesses. Any such fee is deducted through the payment processor from the transaction amount before funds are disbursed to the Organizer. Details of our fee structure are available on our pricing page.
- Payouts: Funds from ticket sales, less Ummah's service fees and the processor's processing fees, will be disbursed to the Organizer's linked bank account or PayPal account according to the processor's payout schedule and terms.
- Organizations accepting payments must also comply with the terms of their chosen processor, including the Stripe Connected Account Agreement and Stripe Restricted Businesses list, or the PayPal Acceptable Use Policy, as applicable.
- c. Refunds & Cancellations:
- All refunds for event tickets are the sole responsibility of the Organizer. Ummah acts purely as a facilitator of the transaction.
- Organizers must clearly communicate their refund policies to attendees on their event pages.
- Refund requests must be processed by the Organizer directly through their payment processor (Stripe or PayPal) in accordance with their stated policy and the processor's terms.
- In cases of event cancellation or postponement, Organizers are solely responsible for notifying attendees and issuing refunds as per their policy. Ummah is not obligated to issue refunds on behalf of Organizers.
- d. Participant Conduct: As an event participant, you agree to comply with the Organizer's rules and policies, as well as all applicable laws. Ummah is not responsible for the actions of other attendees or Organizers.
- e. Event Content: Any content, such as images, videos, or descriptions, uploaded by Organizers for their events is considered User Content and is subject to the terms of Section 3.
6. Donations & Fundraising
The Platform allows verified Organizations to collect donations from their members and supporters in support of the Organization's own religious, charitable, and educational purposes (for example Ramadan and Zakat campaigns, Sadaqah, general operations, and building funds).
- a. Eligibility: Donation features are available only to Organizations, not to individuals, and only after review by Ummah. Organizations in the United States must be registered nonprofit organizations (for most masajid and Islamic centers, an organization recognized under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code) or operate under a verifiable fiscal sponsor. Ummah may request supporting documentation, such as an IRS determination letter or state registration, and may decline or revoke access to donation features at its sole discretion.
- b. Beneficiary of Donations: The beneficiary of every donation is the Organization operating the account. Donations are processed through the Organization's own Stripe connected account or PayPal business account and are paid out directly to the Organization's own bank account or PayPal account. Organizations may not collect donations on behalf of third parties, forward donated funds to unrelated recipients, or use the Platform to transmit money between parties.
- c. Use of Funds: Organizations must describe every donation campaign accurately and use donated funds solely for the purposes described in the campaign materials presented to donors. Misuse of donated funds is a material breach of these Terms and grounds for immediate suspension or termination and, where appropriate, referral to the payment processor or law enforcement.
- d. Prohibited Campaigns: Campaigns that violate our Acceptable Use Policy are prohibited. This includes campaigns that fund illegal activity, violence, or violent extremism; raffles, lotteries, or any form of gambling; and campaigns that benefit any person, entity, or jurisdiction subject to comprehensive U.S. sanctions (including Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria, and the Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk regions of Ukraine). The Platform supports Organizations based in the United States; we do not support campaigns in or for high-risk sanctioned jurisdictions.
- e. Donation Refunds: Refunds of donations are handled by the Organization in accordance with its stated policies and the processor's terms. Donors should contact the Organization directly with refund requests.
- f. Tax Receipts: Organizations are solely responsible for issuing donation receipts and complying with charitable solicitation, registration, and tax rules that apply to them. Ummah does not provide tax, legal, or accounting advice.
- g. No Platform Fee on Donations: Ummah does not charge a platform fee on donations; only the payment processor's standard processing fees apply.
7. Marketplace & Business Services
The Platform includes a Marketplace directory where approved businesses can present products and services to the Ummah community. Paid Marketplace transactions are not currently offered; the terms below apply if and when they are enabled for approved sellers.
- a. Seller Responsibilities: If you operate as a seller or service provider in the Marketplace, you are solely responsible for:
- The accuracy, legality, and quality of all products and services offered.
- Fulfilling all orders and delivering services as advertised.
- Handling customer service, inquiries, and post-sale support.
- Complying with all applicable laws and regulations related to your business operations, sales, and consumer protection.
- Maintaining any necessary business licenses or permits.
- b. Payments & Fees (via Stripe or PayPal): All transactions within the Marketplace will be processed through the seller's chosen payment processor, Stripe or PayPal. Ummah's service fees and the processor's processing fees will apply as described in Section 5b.
- c. Disputes (Marketplace): Disputes between buyers and sellers in the Marketplace are primarily to be resolved directly between the parties. Ummah may, at its sole discretion, offer mediation services or facilitate communication to assist in dispute resolution, but is not obligated to do so and does not guarantee a specific outcome. The dispute and chargeback processes of the applicable payment processor (Stripe or PayPal) will apply to financial aspects of transactions.
8. Text Messages (SMS)
Ummah provides the software that communities use to send text messages to their own members, and separately operates its own text messaging program, Ummah Platform Alerts, for the people who hold an account with us. This section applies to both. Participation is always optional, and consent to receive text messages is never a condition of creating an account, purchasing anything, or making a donation.
- a. What you may receive: Where a community you belong to sends text messages, you receive what that community sends, under its own name, and that community states its own message frequency at the point you agree to it. Ummah Platform Alerts, our own program, sends account and security notifications, including one-time verification codes; billing and subscription notices for your community; demo confirmations, onboarding reminders and support replies; and occasional product updates. Message frequency varies. You will receive up to 4 messages per month.
- b. How you join: By ticking a consent box where the messaging program is offered to you. For Ummah Platform Alerts that is the form at theummah.io/sms/; for a community's messages it is inside the Platform. The box is never ticked for you. We record the wording you agreed to along with the date, so that both of us have the same account of what was agreed.
- c. How you leave: Reply STOP to any message and the messages stop, immediately and at no cost. Reply HELP for help, or email info@theummah.io. Opting out of text messages does not close your account or affect your email notifications.
- d. Costs and delivery: Message and data rates may apply, depending on your mobile phone service plan. Mobile carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages, and neither we nor your carrier guarantee that any particular message will arrive.
- e. Your consent is not for sale: Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent are excluded from every information sharing provision of these Terms and of our Privacy Policy; this information will not be shared with any third parties. No mobile information will be sold, rented, or shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.
- f. If you are an organization sending messages through Ummah: When a masjid, school, non-profit, business or other organization uses Ummah to send text messages to its own members, that organization is the sender. You, not Ummah, are responsible for obtaining and keeping proof of each recipient's express consent before any message is sent; for sending only the categories of message the recipient agreed to; for honoring STOP and HELP without delay; and for complying with the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, applicable state law, and the CTIA Messaging Principles and Best Practices. Consent collected by one organization may not be used by another organization, may not be transferred, sold or rented, and may not be used by Ummah for its own messages. You agree to indemnify Ummah Technology LLC against any claim, fine or penalty arising from messages you send or from consent you did not properly obtain. We may suspend or terminate an organization's messaging access immediately, and without notice, where complaint rates, opt-out rates or carrier notices indicate that messages are being sent without proper consent.
- g. Number registration: Where we register a telephone number with carriers on your organization's behalf, you agree that the business details, opt-in description and consent evidence you give us for that registration are accurate and are your own. Carriers may reject, suspend or revoke a registration at their discretion, and message delivery is not available until a registration is approved.
9. Third-Party Links
The Platform may contain links to third-party websites or services that are not owned or controlled by Ummah. Ummah has no control over, and assumes no responsibility for, the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party websites or services. You acknowledge and agree that Ummah shall not be responsible or liable, directly or indirectly, for any damage or loss caused or alleged to be caused by or in connection with the use of or reliance on any such content, goods, or services available on or through any such websites or services. We strongly advise you to read the terms and conditions and privacy policies of any third-party websites or services that you visit.
10. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Platform is provided on an "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" basis. Ummah makes no representations or warranties of any kind, express or implied, as to the operation of the Platform or the information, content, materials, or products included on the Platform. To the full extent permissible by applicable law, Ummah disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including, but not limited to, implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, or availability. Ummah does not warrant that the Platform will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, that defects will be corrected, or that the Platform or the servers that make it available are free of viruses or other harmful components.
11. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall Ummah, its affiliates, directors, employees, agents, suppliers, or licensors be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including without limitation, loss of profits, data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses, resulting from (i) your access to or use of or inability to access or use the Platform; (ii) any conduct or content of any third party on the Platform, including without limitation, any defamatory, offensive, or illegal conduct of other users or third parties; (iii) any content obtained from the Platform; and (iv) unauthorized access, use, or alteration of your transmissions or content, whether based on warranty, contract, tort (including negligence), or any other legal theory, whether or not we have been informed of the possibility of such damage, and even if a remedy set forth herein is found to have failed of its essential purpose.
12. Termination
Ummah may terminate or suspend your account and access to the Platform immediately, without prior notice or liability, for any reason whatsoever, including without limitation if you breach these Terms. Upon termination, your right to use the Platform will immediately cease. If you wish to terminate your account, you may simply discontinue using the Platform or contact us. All provisions of the Terms which by their nature should survive termination shall survive termination, including, without limitation, ownership provisions, warranty disclaimers, indemnity, and limitations of liability.
13. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. You agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in Texas to resolve any dispute arising out of your use of the Platform or these Terms.
14. Entire Agreement
These Terms constitute the entire agreement between you and Ummah regarding your use of the Platform and supersede all prior and contemporaneous understandings, agreements, representations, and warranties, both written and oral, with respect to the Platform.
15. Changes to the Terms
Ummah reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to modify or replace these Terms at any time. If a revision is material, we will provide at least 30 days' notice prior to any new terms taking effect. What constitutes a material change will be determined at our sole discretion. By continuing to access or use our Platform after those revisions become effective, you agree to be bound by the revised terms. If you do not agree to the new terms, please stop using the Platform.
16. Contact Us
If you have any questions about these Terms, please contact us at info@theummah.io.
17. Additional Terms for Businesses, Halal Restaurants, Community Groups, School Groups, Non-Profits, Masajid, and Organizations
Businesses, Halal Restaurants, Community Groups, School Groups, Non-Profits, Masajid, and Organizations (collectively, "Organizations") utilizing the Platform, especially for paid features such as event hosting, donation management, or marketplace sales, agree to the following additional terms:
- Compliance: Organizations must comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards related to their activities, including but not limited to business licensing, taxation, consumer protection, and data privacy.
- Information Accuracy: Organizations are responsible for the accuracy, completeness, and truthfulness of all information they provide on the Platform, including business details, product/service descriptions, event details, and financial information.
- Tax Responsibility: Organizations are solely responsible for determining, collecting, reporting, and remitting any and all taxes (including income, sales, use, or other taxes) associated with their activities on the Platform. Ummah is not responsible for any taxes.
- Payment Account Requirements: To utilize paid features, Organizations must maintain a valid payment account with one of our supported processors: a Stripe connected account completed through Stripe's required onboarding and identity-verification process, or a PayPal business account linked to their Ummah profile. The payment account and linked bank account must belong to the Organization itself.
- Transaction Limits: Ummah reserves the right to impose transaction, volume, or velocity limits on any Organization's payment features, and to pause or restrict payment features, at its discretion as part of its risk and compliance oversight.
- Sanctions Compliance: Organizations may not use the Platform to send funds to, or receive funds from, any person, entity, or jurisdiction subject to comprehensive U.S. sanctions administered by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), including Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria, and the Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk regions of Ukraine.
- Indemnification: Organizations agree to indemnify and hold harmless Ummah from any claims, damages, liabilities, costs, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or related to their activities on the Platform, including but not limited to breach of these Terms, violation of laws, or disputes with users.
- Specific Program Terms: Organizations may be subject to additional terms and conditions specific to particular programs or features they opt into (e.g., specific marketplace seller agreements, donation management terms).
