3. Sharing Your Information
We may share your information with third parties in the following circumstances:
- a. With Service Providers: We engage trusted third-party service providers who assist us in operating the Platform, performing services on our behalf (e.g., hosting, analytics, customer support, email delivery, payment processing). These providers are contractually obligated to protect your information and use it only for the purposes for which we disclose it to them.
- Stripe: For organizations that choose Stripe, payments are processed through Stripe (Stripe, Inc.) and the organization's Stripe connected account. Stripe directly collects and processes financial information when you engage in paid transactions on Ummah (e.g., buying event tickets, making donations, or receiving payouts as an organization). This includes KYC/KYB information for identity verification and PCI compliance. Ummah does not store your sensitive financial details. Your use of Stripe's services is subject to Stripe's own privacy policy and terms of service.
- PayPal: For organizations that choose PayPal, payments are processed by PayPal (PayPal, Inc.), which directly collects and processes financial information for paid transactions, including KYC/KYB information for identity verification and PCI compliance. Your use of PayPal's services is subject to PayPal's own privacy policy and terms of service.
- b. With Other Users and Organizations:
- Public Profile & Content: Information you make public on your profile or through User Content (e.g., posts on community feeds, event details you create) will be visible to other users of the Platform.
- Event Organizers & Marketplace Sellers: If you participate in an event or purchase from a seller, certain information necessary for the transaction (e.g., your name, email, transaction details) may be shared with the respective Organizer or Seller.
- Communities: If you join a specific community, your profile information and content shared within that community may be visible to other members of that community.
- c. For Legal Reasons: We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to (i) comply with a legal obligation; (ii) protect and defend the rights or property of Ummah; (iii) prevent or investigate possible wrongdoing in connection with the Platform; (iv) protect the personal safety of users of the Platform or the public; or (v) protect against legal liability.
- d. Business Transfers: In the event that Ummah is involved in a merger, acquisition, asset sale, or bankruptcy, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your personal information becomes subject to a different Privacy Policy.
- e. With Your Consent: We may share your information with other third parties when we have your explicit consent to do so.
We will not share your personal information with any third-party for direct marketing purposes without your explicit consent.
Text messaging opt-in data is excluded from all of the above. The above excludes text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties. No mobile information will be sold, rented, or shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Your consent to receive text messages is given to one sender for one purpose, it is not transferable, and it is not passed to anyone else under any of the circumstances described in this section. We share a mobile number with a subcontractor only to the extent needed to deliver a message you asked for, such as our messaging carrier, and those providers are prohibited from using it for anything else.
4. Your Choices and Rights
You have various choices regarding the information you provide and how it is used:
- Profile Information: You can review, update, or correct your account and profile information at any time through your account settings.
- Privacy Settings: You can manage certain privacy settings within the App to control the visibility of your profile and content.
- Marketing Communications: You can opt out of receiving promotional emails from us by following the unsubscribe instructions provided in those emails. Please note that even if you opt out of marketing communications, we may still send you non-promotional messages, such as those about your account or our ongoing business relations.
- Location Data: You can disable location services through your device settings at any time.
- Cookies: You can set your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. However, some features of the Platform may not function properly without cookies.
- Account Deletion: You can request to delete your account through the application settings. Please note that some information may remain in our records after deletion for legal or operational purposes.
5. Data Security
We implement reasonable technical, administrative, and physical security measures designed to protect your information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. Therefore, while we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account password and for restricting access to your devices.
6. Children's Privacy
The Platform is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and you believe your child has provided us with personal information without your consent, please contact us immediately at info@theummah.io. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without verification of parental consent, we will take steps to remove that information from our servers.
7. International Transfers
Your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in countries other than your own, where our servers or service providers are located. These countries may have data protection laws that are different from those in your country. By using the Platform, you consent to the transfer of your information to countries outside your country of residence, including the United States, which may have different data protection rules than your country.
8. Text Messaging (SMS)
This section describes how we handle mobile phone numbers and text messaging consent. It applies in addition to the rest of this Policy, and where it is more protective, it governs.
- a. When we text you: We send text messages only to a mobile number whose owner has asked us to. Consent is collected where you actively tick a box that is never pre-selected for you, either inside the Platform or on a consent form published for a specific messaging program, such as the opt-in form at theummah.io/sms/. Consent to receive text messages is never a condition of creating an account, making a purchase, or making a donation.
- b. What we keep as a record of your consent: When you opt in, we record your mobile number, the date and time, the exact wording you agreed to, the page or screen it happened on, and the IP address and browser the request came from. We keep this record for as long as you are opted in and for a period afterwards, so that we can show, if we are ever asked, that a message we sent was one you asked for.
- c. We do not share it: Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent are excluded from every category of sharing described in Section 3 of this Policy; this information will not be shared with any third parties. No mobile information will be sold, rented, or shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.
- d. How to stop: Reply STOP to any message from us and we will stop, immediately and at no cost to you. Reply HELP for help. You may also email info@theummah.io. When you opt out we keep a record that you opted out, and the date, because that record is what stops the number being messaged again.
- e. Messages from a community, not from us: Organizations that use Ummah, such as a masjid, school, or non-profit, may send text messages to their own members under their own name and from their own number. In that case the organization is the sender and the party you gave consent to, and it is responsible for that consent and for honoring your opt-out. Ummah provides the software. Consent you give to one organization is never consent for another organization, and is never consent for Ummah Technology LLC.
- f. Carriers: Message and data rates may apply, depending on your mobile phone service plan. Mobile carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
9. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the revised Policy on the Platform and updating the "Effective Date" at the top of this Policy. We may also provide additional notice, such as an email notification or in-app alert, before the changes become effective. You are advised to review this Policy periodically for any changes. Your continued use of the Platform after the revised Policy has been posted signifies your acceptance of the changes.
