Ummah vs Circle A Circle alternative for Muslim communities and Islamic organizations

Circle is a polished, powerful community platform: spaces, courses, live rooms, a website builder, an email product, workflows and real APIs, under your own brand. Ummah is the operating system for a Muslim organization: events with tickets and check-in, programs and weekend school, donations with tax receipts, memberships and dues, prayer times, and a member directory you own. Here is the honest split, including the rows where Circle is well ahead of us.

Circle is the better community platform. Ummah is the better platform for a Muslim organization.

That is not a hedge, it is the actual answer. Circle has built things we have not: spaces so conversations do not all land in one feed, a real course product, live streaming and rooms, a website builder, a full email marketing product, automations, a documented API, and branded iOS and Android apps at the top tier. If you are building a large online membership under your own brand and you have budget, Circle is a serious tool and it shows.

But a masjid, an Islamic school or a Muslim non-profit is not a membership business. It takes donations, and it has to be able to hand a donor a year-end receipt with its own EIN on it. It sells tickets to an iftar and scans people in at the door. It runs a weekend school term where the second child is half price and a family pays across three months. It publishes prayer times. Circle does none of those, and none of them are add-ons you can buy.

Then there is the door price. Circle starts at $89 a month billed annually, with no free plan, a 3-admin cap, and a transaction fee that sits on top of Stripe’s. Ummah starts at $0 a month with unlimited members and unlimited admins, and the platform fee on a paid ticket is added at checkout and paid by the attendee, so the organization receives the full amount it set. For a community that is still proving it can fill a room, that gap decides it.

Side by side

Circle's column was read from circle.so/pricing, /payments, /events, /analytics, /email-hub, /branded-app, /courses and /compare on September 19, 2026. Where something is not published on their site, this table says so rather than guessing. Bold is the side that is ahead on that row. Prices move, so check theirs before you act on it.

Where Circle is the better choice

No product wins every row, and a comparison page that pretends otherwise is not worth reading. Here is where we would point you at them instead.

Spaces, courses and live rooms

Three real products we do not have. If your community needs separate rooms for separate conversations, a proper course player, or to stream to a hundred people from inside the platform, Circle has all three today and we have none of them.

White-label, custom domain and branded apps

Circle serves the whole community on your domain under your brand, removes their branding from Business up, and will build you your own iOS and Android apps on Plus. We embed widgets into your site and build you a website; we do not yet serve the whole portal on your domain under your theme.

Automations and a real API

Workflows, an Admin API and a Headless API. We have no public API today. If you want the platform to be a component in a bigger system you are building, Circle is the one that lets you.

Scale and track record

20,000+ communities and $453M+ earned by creators, published on their own site. That is a bigger, more proven business than ours and we are not going to pretend otherwise.

Questions

You can run the conversation on Circle, but not the organization. There is no donation product, so no campaigns, no recurring giving with a donor-chosen amount, no donor record and no year-end tax receipt with your EIN on it. There is no event ticketing with a QR code to scan at the door. There is no term you can price with a sibling discount or a payment plan. And there are no prayer times. Those are not gaps you can fill with an add-on; they are the parts a masjid needs most, and they are the parts Ummah is built around.
Professional is $89 a month and Business $199 a month, and both of those are annual-billing prices — their own footnote says "based on annual billing", and the monthly toggle on their pricing page is disabled, so their month-to-month price is not published. Circle Plus is quote-only. There is no free plan, only a 14-day trial and a 30-day money-back guarantee. On top of the plan there is a transaction fee of 2% on Professional, 1% on Business and 0.5% on Plus, and that fee is charged in addition to Stripe’s own processing fee. Email Hub is a separate paid product. Read off circle.so on September 19, 2026; check it before you act on it.
On Circle, 3 admins and 10 moderators on Professional, 5 and 15 on Business, unlimited only on Plus. Extra admins are $10 a month each and extra moderators $20 a month per ten. On Ummah staff seats are unlimited on every plan, with roles, permissions down to the individual checkbox, and an audit log of who did what. For a masjid with a board, a school principal, two event leads and a treasurer, that difference shows up in month one.
On Circle it comes out of your revenue, and it stacks on top of Stripe’s fee — their own note reads "in addition to the standard Stripe processing fee". On Ummah the platform fee is added on top at checkout and paid by the person buying the ticket, so your organization receives the full amount you set: 3% on Free, 1.5% on Basic, 0% on Advanced, and nothing at all on a free event. Card processing is charged separately by the processor on both platforms.
At being a community platform, on several rows, yes — and the table above says so: spaces, courses, live rooms, white-label with a custom domain, branded apps, workflows and a real API. At being the system a Muslim organization runs on, no, and it is not close, because donations, receipts, ticketing with check-in, weekend school with family pricing and prayer times are not in it at all. Pick on which of those two problems is actually yours.
We read eight of Circle’s own pages on September 19, 2026 and the table prints six rows where Circle is ahead, including their published scale. Where their pricing is annual-only we say so rather than quoting $89 as a monthly price. Where their site contradicts itself — their analytics page and their pricing table disagree about which tier gets analytics filtering — we left it out rather than pick the reading that suited us. Their help centre could not be read by any crawler, so nothing here is sourced from it. If anything is out of date, tell us and we will fix it and say what we fixed.
