Ummah vs Zeffy A Zeffy alternative for masajid

Zeffy is a donation platform that charges the nonprofit nothing and asks the donor for a tip at checkout instead. Ummah bundles the whole community in one published price: events with tickets and QR check-in, members and dues, prayer times, the shared app and a website we design and build, and on Advanced at $75 a month, donations at 0% with no tip asked, the Ummah Kiosk for tap-to-pay giving, TV displays and vendor booth maps. Here is the honest split, including where Zeffy is the better choice.

Updated October 16, 2026 · their column read from their own pages that day

Zeffy is free to the nonprofit. Ummah is the whole masjid in one price.

Start with the part that is true: Zeffy costs the nonprofit nothing. Their pricing page, read on October 16, 2026, puts the cost to the organization at 0% with no monthly fee listed, issues tax receipts automatically, and supports recurring giving. The platform is funded by a tip suggested to the donor at checkout, which the donor can set to zero. If what your organization needs is a donation form and a link to put under a Jumu’ah announcement, and there is no budget for anything else, Zeffy is a good answer and the section below says so.

A masjid does more than collect, though. It sells tickets to an iftar and needs someone at the door to check people in. It runs a weekend school with families to register. It has members, some paying dues, and a board that wants to know who they are. It publishes prayer times, and its community expects to find all of that in one app and on one website. Ummah is built around those jobs, and donations sit inside them on the Advanced plan rather than on a separate tool with a separate login, next to the Ummah Kiosk for tap-to-pay giving at the door and TV displays that show the campaign total, on the tablets and TVs you already own.

The money works differently too. On Ummah the plan is $0, $19 or $75 a month on a public rate card, with the website included at $19 and $75. On a paid ticket the platform fee is added at checkout and paid by the attendee, so you bank the face value. Donations run on Advanced, where the platform fee is 0%, through your own Stripe or PayPal account, and no tip is asked of a donor giving zakat or sadaqah. Communities do switch from Zeffy to Ummah, usually when the second job arrives: a ticketed iftar, a weekend school to register, members with dues, and the donation, the ticket and the member in three different places.

Where Zeffy is the better choice

No product wins every row, and a comparison page that pretends otherwise is not worth reading. Here is where we would point you at them instead.

Free means free

Zeffy charges the nonprofit nothing: no monthly fee and 0% on what comes in, on the page we read on October 16, 2026. The cost moves to the donor as a tip added at checkout, 17% by default on the checkout we went through. For an organization with no budget that only needs a donation form, and is comfortable with that tip, it costs less than Advanced at $75 a month, and we would tell you so on a call.

Automatic tax receipts

Zeffy sends the donor a tax receipt automatically. On Ummah the donor record and giving history sit next to the member, and receipts go out from that record; if hands-off receipts on a donation form are all you want, Zeffy does that well.

Simplicity

One form, one link, no plan to choose. If you do not need tickets, check-in, members, dues, prayer times, an app or a website, Ummah has more product than you need and Zeffy has exactly enough.

Questions

To the nonprofit, yes, as far as its pricing page says. We read zeffy.com/pricing on October 16, 2026: 0% to the organization, no monthly fee listed, automatic tax receipts, recurring giving supported. The platform is paid for by a tip added to the donor's checkout: 17% by default on the Zeffy checkout we went through in October 2026, with no 0% choice in the menu, so a donor who wants to give without it has to open the menu, pick Other and type 0. So the honest description is not "free" but "free to you, and your donor pays unless they find the way out". Whether that sits right with your community is a judgment call, and we would rather you make it knowing the mechanism than discover it from a donor.
On Zeffy the nonprofit pays nothing and a tip, 17% by default, is added to the donor's checkout; a donor who finds Other and types 0 pays nothing extra. On Ummah the organization pays the plan: Free $0 a month, Basic $19 a month, month to month, Advanced $75 a month billed annually on a twelve-month term. On a paid ticket the platform fee is added on top at checkout and paid by the attendee, 3% on Free, 1.5% on Basic and 0% on Advanced, so you bank the face value. Donations run on Advanced at 0% with no tip asked. Card processing is charged by your own Stripe or PayPal on Ummah; on Zeffy it sits inside their 0%.
No. A donor on Ummah sees the gift they chose and pays that. The platform fee on Advanced, where donations live, is 0%, and the money goes into your organization’s own Stripe or PayPal account rather than through ours. The only extra cost is the card processing your processor charges, which applies to any online payment anywhere: Stripe lists 2.9% + 30c, or 2.2% + 30c for verified nonprofits, and PayPal 1.99% + 49c for confirmed charities. If your organization is a 501(c)(3), the nonprofit rate is the single biggest saving available, and it is yours, not ours.
No, and we would rather say so here than after you sign up. Free gives you the shared app, the community feed, unlimited members and events, paid ticketing with QR check-in at the door, prayer times and a public Community Page, with no card and no time limit. Donation campaigns, donor records and the donation widget are on Advanced, $75 a month billed annually, where the platform fee is 0% and campaigns need nonprofit approval. The same plan includes the Ummah Kiosk, TV displays, vendor booth maps and a website we build. If donations are the only thing you need today, that is a real reason to pick Zeffy, and it is in the section above.
Yes, on Advanced. The Ummah Kiosk runs on an iPad or Android tablet you already own, so there is no device to buy, and takes tap-to-pay donations with Apple Pay, Google Pay or a contactless card. The same kiosk checks people in by QR code, registers walk-ups and signs up new members, recognizes returning donors, and shows an ad carousel when it is idle. Every kiosk is managed from Kiosk Management in the portal, and it is included in the $75 plan. Zeffy offers Tap to Pay in its phone app and, on the page we read, no kiosk.
Maybe you should not, yet. If a form and a link is the whole job and there is no budget, Zeffy is the better fit and this page says so. Look at Ummah when the second job arrives: the iftar that needs tickets and a door, the weekend school that needs registrations, the members whose dues nobody is tracking, the prayer times three people update in three places. Those start on Free at $0, and when the donation moves across to Advanced it sits next to the ticket and the member instead of on its own island. That is the point at which communities have switched.
We tried to make it one, and we make Ummah, so read it knowing that. Zeffy’s column was read from zeffy.com/pricing on October 16, 2026, and the table scores Zeffy ahead on three rows: what the nonprofit pays, card processing and tax receipts. The 17% default tip and the Other-then-0 step are what we saw going through a Zeffy checkout in October 2026; Zeffy does not publish the default, so check a live form yourself. Where that page did not cover something, such as events, members or a website, the cell says so and the row is scored even rather than counted against them. If anything here is out of date, tell us and we will fix it and say what we fixed.
